Award Nomination:
A working group was formed to look at a competency framework.
Initial group consisted of:
- The Bristol Port Company – Andy Morley (Chair)
- Port Training Services – Colin Bassam
- Forth Ports – Natalie Dalgleish
- Port of Dover – Marisa George
Andy is a very passionate manager who has brought his expertise in competency management to the Port industry from the UK regulated rail industry. He collaborated with PSS and other Port members in producing the PSS competency management system. This is a well written document which has been taken up by many of the members.
Andy is always willing to advise on competency matter and help in any way possible.
I would like to nominate The Bristol Port Company/Andy Morley for PSS award best members calibration. Andy has shared to wider Port members his time and expertise, pursuing the end goal of a CMS that is fit for purpose. I believe once the CMS is used to its full capacity this will help reduce the industry accident and incident rates.
Additional Information
The project was need as the Port industry has been advised by the HSE that accident/incident rates must be reduced. Competency assessment is a proven pathway by the rail industry following a number of serious incidents and casualties.
A small members group collaborated to produce a PSS competency management system, this is closely based on CMS produced by Andy Morley for Bristol Port Company. Once the final draft was ready this went out to all members for review with a positive feedback and the result that it is now in place.
We now have smaller groups working on individual assessments for their own pathways
