We are delighted to report that Ashley Nicholson - Senior Harbour Master, Forth Ports - will become the new UKHMA President from June 10, 2020. Ashley has worked for Forth Ports for nearly 12 years starting her career with the port group in 2008 as VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) Operator.
Ashley was one of the initial group of Harbour Masters in the United Kingdom to achieve the MCA Acknowledged Harbour Masters Certificate and now forms part of the management group who continue to support this industry lead qualification. Members will be aware that the Harbour Master Certificate was co-designed by UKHMA and port employers and is the only HM Certificate that directly involves the MCA in its assessment process. Ashley has also been a key contributor to industry work on Trailblazer Apprenticeships.
I look forward to my time as President of the UKHMA and will strive to continue the excellent work of my predecessors in representing the Harbour Masters of the UK and shall promote, encourage and grow the association whilst continuing to provide a valuable return to the UKHMA membership and the Harbour Mastering community in general.
Outgoing President Julian Seaman - Harbour Master/Marine Director, Shoreham Port - has worked enthusiastically, bringing great care and professionalism to a wide range of industry projects during his three years of office. With PSS, this has included Trailblazer Apprenticeships, Occupational Standards, Marine Pilotage and Port Marine Safety Code projects. It has been a pleasure working with him as President and we hope to continue to call upon his expertise in the future - Shoreham Port workload permitting!
