Throughout 2025 PSS will be focussing on the theme of A Safer Tomorrow, championing the move from reactive to proactive safety thinking and discussing the art of the possible
We will be asking all our members, stakeholders and the wider maritime sector to imagine how our workplaces might evolve over the next 20 years and to start shaping that future today. From advances in automation and wearable tech to shifts in culture and leadership, we want to explore what a truly safe, modern port could look like — and what we need to do now to get there.
We’ll be asking bold questions: what do we accept today that future generations will find archaic? What behaviours, practices or risks are we normalising that we shouldn’t be? What does a ‘safe port’ actually looks like? And is technology the answer or is cultural change a more important driver for safety?
By coming together to share ideas and challenge the status quo, we can create safer, smarter, and more inclusive ports for the future.
Our annual conference will carry this theme, we will be posting a series of thought leadership pieces on what a safer tomorrow looks like – and how we get there, and we will be running a competition to see what young people entering the port sector today think the industry will look like when they are the senior managers and leaders.
If you would like to share you contribute your thoughts on what makes a safe tomorrow then get in touch: info@portskillsandsafety.co.uk
