Competition: What does the port of tomorrow look like?

Campaigns |

Published: Apr 15, 2025

As part of the PSS Safer Tomorrow campaign, we’re inviting port apprentices and young port workers (aged 16–25) to take part in a competition to envisage what the port of tomorrow will look like. With your whole career ahead of you, what might your workplace look like when you’re the senior manager? How do you think safety will improve in the years to come? What changes do you expect to see—or want to lead?

Lead the maritime industry in thinking about the art of the possible.

  • Will port operatives work from offices or control rooms, remotely operating cranes and tugs?
  • Could containers move by drone with ports becoming ‘landing sites’?
  • Will PPE be smart enough to stop vehicles in their tracks or even move you out of harm’s way automatically?
  • Could pilots be move from port to ship by drone – or not at all?

How to enter:

You can submit your idea in any format—whether it’s a written piece, a video message, an AI-designed image or something else. We want to hear your voice and your vision.

The prize:

  • The best entry will win a £100 Amazon voucher.
  • All entries will be showcased on the PSS website.
  • The winner will be announced at the PSS Members’ Conference in London on 08 July.

Deadline for entries: Monday 23 June

What does a safer tomorrow look like to you? Send your entries to info@portskillsandsafety.co.uk by Monday 23 June.
