Early Information Sharing is a PSS priority; aimed at proactively preventing incidents. Safety Alerts are good opportunities for members to review/modify existing safety control measures and are a leading indicator of a positive safety culture.
This Safety Alert has been shared by one of our members to raise awareness of the importance of only using Company provided Personal Protective Equipment in the workplace, details are attached
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is defined as all equipment (including clothing affording protection against the weather) which is intended to be worn or held by a person at work and which protects him against one or more risks to his health or safety’, e.g. safety helmets, gloves, eye protection, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear and safety harnesses.
Both Employers and Employees should observe:
By law, in the UK and Ireland, PPE must conform to published quality standards and must also be CE marked. CE marking is a certification mark that indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold.
In the UK for example, the relevant legislation is The Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 2016/425, which is enforced by the Personal Protective Equipment (Enforcement) Regulations 2018.
HSE are the enforcing authority for the supply of all PPE that is designed for use at work.
Failure to comply with these regulations may constitute an offence by the employer, the employee or both.
