Harbour Master Certificate

The Harbour Master Certificate (HM Certificate) was developed by Port Skills and Safety and the UK Harbour Masters Association (UKHMA),

The HM Certificate is a voluntary qualification that demonstrates capability, knowledge and understanding of the current National Occupational Standards for harbour masters. Uniquely, the HM Certificate is officially recognised by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and the Department for Transport. The HM Certificate is not Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) compliant.

Entry requirements

The qualification is open to harbour masters, deputy and assistant harbour masters and those within the Harbour Master Office in the UK, Northern Ireland and Channel Islands.

The certification is revalidated after five years through a process of continual professional development (CPD).

Typical duration

18 months.

Funding

A bursary is available for those may be unable to cover the cost of the course.

Price: £3,950 (£3,700 before 1 April 2024)

Price to UKHMA members: £3,700 (£3,450 before 1 April 2024)
