Coleraine Harbour Commissioners

The Port of Coleraine is a Northern Ireland Trust Port of approximately 16 acres with our main tennants being T-Met Ltd, RNLI, Lockbox Storage NI, JKC Car Specialists and the Coleraine and District Motor Club.

Coleraine Harbour Commissioners are the Navigation Authority for the River Bann Estuary as provided under legislation in the River Bann Navigation Act 1879, our Harbour Area covers an area from the ‘Old Bridge’ Coleraine to a distance 500m on the seaward side of the Barmouth Breakwaters and extends up to mean high water spring tide.

This legislative act is critical for the economic and social development of Northern Ireland, as it provides a safe accessible waterway for trade, transportation and recreation.

The full Board of Commissioners are the ‘duty holders’ under the Port Marine Safety Code.  The Port is compliant with the Port Marine Safety Code and has issued a statement of Compliance to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Coleraine Harbour offers Pilotage for Commercial Vessels currently handling Recycled Metal, Building Materials and General Cargo.

Over the last number of years the leisure business has increased and during that time the Commissioners have invested in new equipment and improving existing facilities.

The port currently has facilities for lifting leisure business craft of up to 18 tonne.

It has areas of hard standing and inside cover for leisure craft (one of the very few ports in Northern Ireland that offers this facility).

The Port also accommodates leisure craft for berthing on 70 metres of Pontoons on the East bank of the Bann and 100 metres of pontoons on the West bank, downstream of the Millennium footbridge and a Slipway, all at very competitive rates.
