Ahead of attending the Maritime UK awards in Belfast, CEO, Debbie Cavaldoro and Skills Lead, Angela Ward visited Belfast Harbour Commissioners.

Health, safety and environment manager, Ian Spratt, and compliance manager, Eoghan Rainey, took Debbie and Angela out on the pilot boat to get a perfect view of the wide range of operations undertaken at Belfast Harbour.

The harbour estate covers 2,000 acres – 20 per cent of the whole Belfast City area. As well as container terminals, ferries, cruise ship and general cargo the port is home to the iconic Harland and Wolff cranes Samson and Goliath.

Discussions included the PSS data dashboard, the importance of sharing safety alerts and the current guidance and best practice around clipping on to Hadrian rails. The harbour is also the likely venue for the Port Safety Group and Innovation meetings in 2025 so the visit concluded with a tour around the fabulous harbour office and museum.

As always, visiting members’ sites provides us with a much greater insight into operations, the challenges faced and the successes achieved. If you would like us to visit you, please drop us a line!
