PSS Skills Lead, Angela Ward and Chief Executive, Debbie Cavaldoro visited Associated British Ports (ABP) in Hull to meet the academy team and find out more about their current training and plans for the future.
Alison Knight, Head of Academy and Talent, kindly hosted the visit and gave an overview of the ABP academy, the team structure and recent graduate and apprentice assessment days.
Angela and Debbie were joined by Amy Drury, Early Careers Lead and Liam Briggs-Campbell, Leadership and Development Training Partner. Discussions included Skills England, the Marine Pilot level 5 apprenticeship and whether there is a renewed need for maritime apprenticeships in Wales, They also heard more about the different levels of leadership and development programmes that ABP is using to train their management teams.

An informative tour was provided by Chris that included the all weather facility for handling weather-sensitive cargoes such as steel and bagged products, the ferry terminal, biomass steel, general cargoes, biomass warehouse and the vast volume of timber the port handles.

Thank you to Alison and the team at Associated British Ports, Hull for their hospitality and insights. Also, to Chris for generously sharing his birthday cake!
