Property Damage Campaign
The PD Ports Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability (HSE&S) Team launched a company-wide Property Damage Campaign, intended to reduce property-damage incidents, improve vehicle-pedestrian safety and promote safe movement behaviours across all operational areas.
Background and Need for Change
The plan is based on incident data and campaign insights collected between January 2024 and February 2026, which showed that damage/loss continued to account for the majority of incidents. It was also recognised that address the causes of collisions and damage events would also reduce the risk of injuries to pedestrians.
Campaign Design and Delivery
The campaign was ran under the key poster slogan “This time it’s a post — next time it’s a person.”
Key objectives were:
- Reduce Level 2 incidents by Q3 2026.
- Achieve a consistent downward trend in Level 1 events.
- Maintain and strengthen reductions in Level 3 events.
- Improve accuracy and detail in Evotix reporting.
- Enhance controls for vehicle–pedestrian interactions.
Roll out
- Poster campaign
- Leadership Walkabouts: Visible leadership engagement promoting safe practices.
- Targeted Spot Checks: Identify exemplary conduct and at-risk behaviours.
- Daily Safety Briefings: Reinforce key messages and learnings.

Innovation and Human Factors
The campaign was used to reinforce PD Ports’ “Stop for Safety” principle, which helps to:
- Prevent serious injury and fatality
- Reinforce personal accountability
- Empower all employees
- Strengthens our values across the team and helps foster a positive, supportive H&S culture.
Simple way to explain it on site: “If it doesn’t feel safe, stop. No job is so important that it can’t be done safely.”
Behavioural & Operational Focus:
Reinforce mirror checks, reversing practices, and spatial awareness.
Consider Implementing Supervisor Safety Check‑Ins (SScI) covering:
- Mirrors
- Blind spots
- Lighting
- Vehicle condition
Driving observation sessions focused on specific tasks. Assess the following areas:
- Spatial awareness
- Effective mirror use
- Proximity to pedestrians and other vehicles
Provide feedback highlighting good practice as well as opportunities for improvement.
