Best Members' Collaboration Awards Entry: RMS Ports and Precision Stevedores

Award Nomination:

RMS Ports and Precision Stevedores have a long standing collaborative relationship. Precision Stevedores provide Agency personnel to RMS across the Groups portfolio. The nature of the relationship has ensured developing safety performance across the Ports and a continued developing safety culture.

The nature of the working relationship often results in close collaboration to address issues that may arise. This approach ensures a consistent and align approach which helps deliver desired outcomes.

RMS and Precision identify opportunities for improvement to adopt best practice. The most recent, and successful such instance is the joint Wellbeing & Mental Health project which addressed a topic currently high on the agenda of many organisations.

Additional Information:

Employee wellbeing and mental health has always been a core value of both RMS Ports and Precision Stevedores, however, there was an opportunity for improvement identified.

The objective of the project was to address employee wellbeing and mental health in a unified and collaborative way so RMS personnel and Precision Stevedores personnel could be confident that at each Port across the Group, wellbeing and mental health was recognised as being important and that they could expect the same approach across the business, again driving alignment and consistency.

The project was needed to formalise what was done, but not necessarily recorded as well as upskilling members of each workforce to be Mental Health First Aiders, and to raise other colleagues’ awareness via Mental Health awareness training.

Initially a steering group was founded involving personnel from RMS Ports and Precision Stevedores. The Steering Group established a scope and set regular meetings to advise Senior Leadership of best practice and of feedback from colleagues.

Further, RMS and Precision sit on an external committee which explore and discuss mental health in the workplace which has provided a great wealth of information and enabled sharing across various industries to learn from others and adopt strategies applicable to each business. There has been significant interest in the project with many colleagues volunteering to either be Mental Health First Aiders or to undertake Mental Health Awareness Training.

Following the successful, and ongoing, collaboration RMS Ports and Precision Stevedores personnel have access to 10+ Mental Health First Aiders and have a range of supporting documentation to help anyone who may be struggling with their Mental Health and Wellbeing.

RMS and Precision continue to engage with their colleagues to understand how we can continue improve wellbeing and mental health across the two businesses.
