The 7 Leading Principles of Safety in RoRo Operations
The 7 leading principles of Safety in RoRo Operations has been collectively produced by the ports industry with the support of Port Skills and Safety. One of the cornerstones of PSS’s strategy is to serve as thought leaders; to challenge, to learn and do things differently. This is a pioneering example of key principles created by employees from the sharp end, working together to proactively raise standards across the port industry.
Following a tragic fatal incident in RoRo operations in 2020, PSS conceptualised and held the first ever Appreciate Investigation workshop with a volunteer group of PSS members at our London offices. The aim of the workshop was twofold. Firstly, to enhance member safety toolboxes with a positive-generative approach to investigating and preventing incidents. Secondly, creation of something that would help prevent future fatalities in the industry. The 7 leading principles were identified during this workshop and finalised through a formal consultation process with the group. Video recording of these leading principles by member ports began as soon as operations normalised from the effects of Covid-19
PSS would like to extend special thanks to Peel Ports, Bristol Port Company, Forth Ports and P&O ferries for their support with producing this video and help in bringing the 7 principles to the port industry
