Skills Bootcamps

Qualifications |

Skills Bootcamps can be used to hire new employees or upskill the existing workforce.

They can help employers to recruit and upskill staff, reduce recruitment costs and boost productivity with newly trained and motivated learners.

What are Skills Bootcamps?

  • Flexible training courses lasting up to 16 weeks.
  • For adults aged 19+ years old.
  • Offer participants a job interview on completion.
  • Could lead to an accelerated apprenticeship due to the bootcamp providing prior learning.

Industry areas

Courses cover skills areas including:

  • Technical skills, such as engineering and manufacturing, logistics (HGV driving) and construction.
  • Digital skills, such as data engineering, coding, digital marketing and software development.
  • Skills that support the green economy, such as electric vehicles, solar energy, heat pump technology and agriculture technology.

Funding

There is no cost to recruit someone who has completed a Skills Bootcamp.

To train an existing employee, a training cost contribution will be payable:

  • 10% for a small to medium employer with 1 to 249 employees.
  • 30% if you are a large employer with 250+ employees.

Employees may require time off for study, depending on course flexibility and work hours.

Employers will need to provide:

  • The same as with a work experience placement including an induction covering key policies and procedures, a safe working environment and a line manager to mentor the student.
  • In addition, employers need to provide a guaranteed job interview within the Skills Bootcamps scheme.
