The Diploma in Supervision of Ports and Maritime Operations vocational qualification is based on the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Supervision of Port Operations and has been developed in close consultation with industry.

It has been designed to assess the skills and knowledge that are required to supervise ports and maritime operations.

Stevedore, port operative, marine/passenger/general supervisor in a port.

Level

This is a level 3 qualification.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. Candidates with experience or knowledge of port operations would be an advantage along with a willingness to learn.

Typical duration

60 (minimum) to 80 (maximum) guided learning hours.

Progression

This qualification offers progression opportunities including further qualifications, apprenticeships and wider employment.

Candidates could progress to relevant specialist courses such as Port Management or Health and Safety Inspection or to the Diploma for Harbour Masters or a relevant Foundation degree such as Navigation and Maritime Science or Maritime Operations. Progression to a general Business or Management Foundation degree may also be feasible.
