World suicide prevention day
Campaigns |Published: Sep 10, 2024
In observance of World Suicide Prevention Day, Port Skills and Safety (PSS) is highlighting the importance of mental health within the maritime industry by recalling our annual Mental Health in Ports campaign. As the leading body for skills and safety in the UK’s ports sector, PSS is committed to fostering a supportive environment where mental health is given the attention it deserves.
The maritime industry is a demanding and often high-pressure field, where the well-being of our workforce is paramount. The nature of port operations, with its rigorous schedules and occasional isolation, can take a toll on mental health. Recognising this, we hope to raise awareness, provide resources, and promote conversations around mental health and suicide prevention.
To support our annual mental health in ports campaign, a range of resources designed to assist those in need, is published on the PSS website.
We invite all port operators, workers, and stakeholders to actively participate in our mental health in ports campaign. By engaging with the resources provided and fostering open discussions about mental health, we can work together to create a healthier and more supportive work environment.
For more information on our campaign and to access the resources available, please visit campaign page on the PSS website. Together, we can make a difference and promote a culture of care within the maritime industry.
On this World Suicide Prevention Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to mental health awareness and support within the ports sector. By leveraging the resources and tools provided through our campaign, we can make strides towards a safer and more compassionate workplace.
If you or someone you know is in need of immediate help, please reach out to one of the helplines listed on our resource page. Remember, support is always available, and you don’t have to face challenges alone.
Together, we can make a positive impact on mental health in the ports industry.
By providing support and resources, we can help create a culture where seeking help is encouraged and supported.
