Robert leads on Technical Safety & Nautical policy matters at the Chamber of Shipping, whilst also managing two associations of the British Tugowners Association (BTA) and British Rig Owners Association (BROA).
Robert has been with the Chamber for 10 years, and became involved with carriage of Electric Vehicles on board ferries, first as secretary to the Dangerous Goods Working Group, and secondly as co-secretary to the Lithium Ion Battery Working group. The LIBWG, at the bequest of member shipowners interested in the safety consideration of carriage of lithium ion batteries, was established in 2022, to engage with academics, regulators, insurers and fire experts. The Group has produced guidance for Masters and Crew on LIB Fire Safety, and inputs nationally via MCA and internationally via International Chamber of Shipping development of new regulation and requirements for safety.
Robert is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS), holds a joint honours in Economics and Geography from Trinity College, Dublin, and worked with the Irish Maritime Development Office (IMDO) prior to joining the UK Chamber.
