Safety Alert - Early Lessons

A fellow member has recently had an incident at a port and has offered to share some incident details and the initial learnings for the benefit of other members and visitors to the site.

On 5th January 2018 at the Port of Sheerness, an incident occurred involving a Stothert and Pitt DD2 Portal Crane. Injury was caused when a man travelling in a man-basket was dropped several feet  although he is expected to make a good recovery. As an interim precaution,  operational restrictions have been imposed on this crane design whereby the use of the crane for lifting personnel has been suspended until further notice.
