There was a fire incident at a member port on Thursday morning however no personnel were injured as the situation was brought under control immediately.
Port Skills and Safety and its member ports believe that the early sharing of information with other organisations will help prevent a similar incident from occurring.This will hopefully assist in reviewing and updating existing safety measures.
During the early morning of 1 March 2018 Avon Fire and Rescue were called to Royal Portbury to attend a fire in the hold of a ship carrying animal feed for import. An excavator in the hold of the ship had caught fire.
The Port’s established safety procedures and the Fire Brigade’s prompt action brought the fire under control and it was extinguished by 0600hrs.
One port operative was taken to Southmead Hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation, all other staff resumed their duties as usual.
