Penalties double for mobile phone use whilst driving.

The new penalties announced by the Department for Transport (DfT)  for drivers using a mobile phone behind the wheel have come into force from Wednesday 1st March, with offenders risking a £200 fine and six driving license penalty points.

This is a result of the now completed consultation by DfT, where 99% agreed that driving whilst using a hand-held mobile phone is a dangerous activity and a unanimous 96% were in favor of increased sanctions for this offence. These new penalties are ultimately aiming to help in reducing the number of deaths and injuries that occur on our roads.
