On the occassion of International London Shipping Week, Maritime Minister John Hayes was speaking on last Monday evening to an audience of business and college leaders at the Maritime Skills Alliance's reception for London International Shipping Week.
Mr Hayes encouraged employers to be more positive about the opportunity created by the apprenticeship levy and rise to the challenge of doubling the number of apprenticeship they employ.

In addition to doubling the number of apprenticeships employed, Mr Hayes also challenged leaders of industry to come up with a plan to specifically aimed at increasing the number of women in the maritime industry. Minister expects a well thought out response plan from industry leaders by Christmas time.
Minister went on to thank the companies profiled in a new booklet on apprenticeships which he launched at the event: Maritime Apprenticeships:Your Future,Their Future, Our Future – Associated British Ports, DFDS Seaways and Berthon. It was a joint publication for employers, from the Department for Transport and industry representative body Maritime UK.
