HSE has published a new webpage as part of their Go Home Healthy campaign containing tools and resources for managing and preventing MSDs, which was discussed at the logistics forum on 14 November 2018.
The case studies on the webpage are relevant to the Logistics sector. which includes:1. The MAC Tool
The Mac Tool is designed to help you understand, interpret and categories the level of risk in your workplace from manual handling activities.
2. Wearable Devices
The wearable device is small equipment attached to the body for movement when picking up a load. It can reduce the risk of pain and injury to back, joints, and limbs.
3. Draper Tools
Draper tools is a 'Vaculext' lifting system to help reduce the risk of pain and injury to backs, joints, and limbs.
4. Think, Tailor, Test
Research has shown that general training in lifting techniques is an ineffective way of controlling the risks of manual handling in businesses. By getting help to change the way you work, you can reduce manual handling risks and avoid paying for ineffective or unnecessary training.
5. Design Prize
The 'Risk-reduction through design’ award is open to businesses who have made ergonomics–based changes to their work practices to reduce the risks of work-related MSDs.
The webpage contains useful guidance, resources, tools and case studies to help employers to Think, Tailor and Test their approach to managing MSDs in their workplace.Organizations are encouraged to think differently about their approach to managing the risk caused by MSDs and to seek the right type of help for their business.
