Chief Executive, Port Skills and Safety Ltd, London

Published: Tuesday, May 4, 2021 - 09:30

As Chief Executive you will lead Port Skills and Safety Ltd (PSS) at a time when the port sector has never been more important or high profile to the future prosperity of the UK, with 95% of the UK’s trade being handled by the UK’s ports.

You will be reporting to an ambitious Board that is looking to move our sector to the very forefront of safety thinking and innovation. This will require you to work collaboratively with our member organisations to design and deliver industry-leading skills and safety strategies for health, safety and skills across the port sector. It is also vital that we continue to innovate and grow our skills and experience to ensure that the port sector can meet the future challenges facing us.

Your key focus is on engagement and delivery so you must be an excellent, persuasive and dynamic communicator with great influencing skills and the ability to lead others. You will have a proven track record in making a lasting difference in a senior leadership role.

Although you must be skilled at building relationships whilst balancing competing interests, ultimately you must be comfortable with deciding the best course of action for our sector.

Experience of working with and influencing government bodies, regulators (especially the Health and Safety Executive) and education authorities is essential. Experience of working positively with trade unions and national and regional skills bodies is desirable.
