A Brief History of PSS

Between 2002 and 2007 we were a limited company.  In 2007 the limited company was wound up and PSS became an unincorporated trade association, a joint venture subsidiary of UK Major Ports Group (UK MPG) and British Ports Association (BPA).  

In 2014 separation of financial arrangements (previously tied to BPA) was effected with separate bank account, tax, vat and payroll established for PSS. Employees were TUPE transferred from BPA to PSS on 1 Jan 2015.  On 1 August 2016, at the behest of the UKMPG Board and BPA Council, PSS once more became incorporated as Port Skills and Safety Limited company number:10131855, a company limited by guarantee.

The PSS Board fulfils the statutory duties of Port Skills and Safety Limited.

The annual programme of work, budget and subscription rates are set by the PSS Management Committee which at full strength comprises: UKMPG and BPA Executive Directors, two BPA and two UKMPG appointed members, two members with port operational experience as invited by the Committee and one representative for organisations that are PSS subscribers but are not members of either BPA or UKMPG. There have been a few changes recently and here are the current members of the PSS management committee.
