Level 3 Supervision of Port Operations - General Supervision Pathway

Learners must complete 10 Units for the qualification, including 3 mandatory units and a combination of units from groups A, B and C

Mandatory Units

Unit Title

Group A – at least 2 Units no more than 3

4.2.1 Promote health and safety in ports
4.2.2 Undertake safety inspections
4.2.3 Monitor procedures to control risk to health and safety
4.2.4 Contribute to the development of health and safety procedures in ports
4.2.5 Conduct an assessment of risks in the workplace
4.3.1 Ensure your team’s actions aim to protect the port environment
4.4.1 Make initial investigations into incidents in ports
4.4.2 Manage port users in an emergency
4.4.3 Respond to an incident within a port environment
4.4.4 Administer first aid

Group B – at least 1 Unit no more than 3

2.2.1 Control and navigate port craft
2.2.2 Coordinate and control lock and lock gate operations
2.2.3 Coordinate and control, bridge operations
2.2.4 Coordinate and control vessel berthing operations
2.2.5 Coordinate and control the use of weighbridges
2.3.1 Ensure the operational readiness of the port terminal
2.3.2 Manage the movement of passengers within a port terminal
2.3.3 Manage the movement of passengers’ baggage between vessels and terminals
3.1.1 Plan and implement a lifting plan
3.1.2 Confirm load characteristics within a port
3.1.3 Plan vessel loading and discharge within a port environment
3.1.4 Plan load storage within a port environment
3.2.1 Contribute to the provision and control of moorings
3.2.2 Provide information to facilitate vessel movements
3.2.3 Assist with planning vessel movements within the port area
3.3.1 Plan and coordinate the routine maintenance of port plant and equipment
6.1.1 Organise, deliver and maintain reliable customer service
6.1.2 Improve the customer relationship
