Review of NPE Code

Posted by PSS on 22/09/2005 - 17:19

The ports industry’s Code of Practice for the Engagement of Non-Permanent Employees (NPEs) in the Ports Industry was introduced to ensure that no ‘non-permanent employee’ should be engaged in ‘cargo handling’ unless fit and competent to do the work, having received appropriate health and safety induction training.

Following extensive consultations, the Code has now been revised. The scope of the Code has been extended to include all NPEs engaged in cargo handling operations generally, not just those that load/unload cargo to and from ships. Additional changes have also been made to the document text. The revised NPE Code is freely available to download from the PSS website. Hard copies are also available on request (Information Paper 002/2006 refers).
