PORTS FOUNDATION DEGREE

• Foundation Degrees (FD) – vocationally focused higher ed. qualification, integrating academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and educational providers.
• Must have employer involvement and is intended to equip learners with the skills and knowledge relevant to their employment. Employability focus.
• Is a level 5 qualification, equivalent to the first 2 years of a degree programme and is validated by a university. Is a stand-alone qualification, but must offer an option to progress to at least one honours degree.
• The purpose of a FD framework is to set the requirements of employers in the industry and thereby give guidance to HE providers who wish to develop a FD in this sector.
