Safe Coupling and Uncoupling of Trailers

The working group consisting of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE), Port Skills and Safety (PSS) and members from the ports industry attended two ports of varying sizes and operations to look at the process of coupling and uncoupling, this looked at land based operations and transporting trailers on and off vessels, the HSE compiled a report following these visits.

Following various site visits, a meeting was arranged with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE), Ports Skills and Safety and stakeholders within the ports industry to discuss the findings of the report submitted by the HSE. It was agreed that additional guidance is required and will also be included in the work of the Health and Safety Docks Guidance Project.
