Health and Safety in Docks Guidance
September 14 2009
The Health and Safety Guidance in Docks Project is one of the main priorities of PSS as this will eventually replace the current guidance “Safety in Docks”, We have been advised that the HSE will seek to revoke the Dock Regulations 1988, as part of their simplification plan to aid compliance.
The Guidance Project Group meets every 4 to 6 weeks and provisionally agrees the content of each topic prior to submission to the Editorial Panel which is made up of various stakeholders.
The Lighting guidance and General Cargo Handling guidance has been completed, these documents will be ready for publication following approval from the Health and Safety Executive.
Work continues on the following topics, Mooring and Workboats, Container Handling, Timber Handling, RoRo, Liquid and Dry Bulk Cargoes and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
A gap analysis of Safety in Docks (SID) has been performed to identify any useful text and areas not covered by more recent legislation. This will be fed into the various topic guidance documents.
It is expected that the project will be completed by August 2010.
