Report on the 2008 UK Championship for the Grand Prior Trophy
January 13 2009
This year’s UK Championship for the Grand Prior Trophy was held in Coton House, Rugby on 4th December. The venue was provided by the Royal Mail and the event sponsored by Tarmac Ltd.
This was the 59th anniversary of these competitions bringing together the best first aiders from around the UK. The ports’ industry was represented by teams from Associated British Ports, Goole and the Port of Tilbury London Ltd.
Twenty six teams competed on the day and the competition was, as ever, extremely fierce and although both our teams performed well they were unable to feature amongst the trophy winners. However, Linda Pipe from ABP Ipswich, who stepped in at the last minute to act as a reserve for the Goole team, achieved a very creditable fourth place in the reserves competition.
The team from RIFAA Network Rail Derby were the overall UK Champions for 2008 – but who knows it could be our turn to take the trophy next year?
