FAQs

Q. I’m interested in working in the Ports Industry, how do I go about getting more information?

You will need to apply direct to a prospective employer as we do not process job applications for the industry. You can find out about port organisations in your area via the British Port Association (www.britishports.org.uk) and UK Major Ports Group (www.ukmajorports.org.uk) websites. There is also some information on employers on our Member Map

The Careers Advice Service may also be able to offer other useful services, such as help with CVs, help with understanding what training you need to get the career you are after, and so on. You can find more information on this website: www.careersadvice.direct.gov.uk/helpwithyourcareer/jobprofiles/profiles/…

Q. How do I go about applying for a National / Scottish Vocational Qualification (N/SVQ’s) in Port Operations?

If you would like to know more about the Port Operations N/SVQ then you should speak to a training provider or college that offers the qualification. To find out about NVQ providers, contact Empta Awards Ltd (www.eal.org.uk) who are the awarding body for England and Wales.

Please contact the Scottish Qualifications Authority www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/23564.html who can tell you more about the qualification and possibly put you in touch with a provider.
